Arab Finance: Orascom Telecom Holding S.A.E., announced today that its subsidiary in Bangladesh, operating under the brand name “Banglalink”, has agreed to make a payment of a fixed amount to the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (“BTRC”) as part of its corporate responsibility to compensate the government for any revenue loss due to the misuse of its services by some of its subscribers.
BTRC conducted investigations of almost all telecom operators. After a thorough investigation, it was found that some of Banglalink’s subscribers misused its services and indulged in VoIP business, without Banglalink’s knowledge. Banglalink has agreed to make a one time fixed payment of Tk.1,250 million equivalent to US$ 17.9 million as a compensation to the national exchequer.
Banglalink has been conducting its business by following guidelines from the BTRC, and will continue to do so, upholding its continuing efforts to maintain the highest professional and ethical standards
